the Kirby Sleeve #2

Step two. We ran out of time before finishing out the blacks. Not as large as Iron Man, but more line work and more blacks.

the Kirby Sleeve #1

So, my long gestating plan to do a sleeve tattoo of Jack Kirby artwork finally started last night. Jason at Timeless Tattoo in Atlanta is the artist and, apart from being an amazing tattoo artist it's obvious he knew what I wanted and understood Kirby. As painful as it was (and it was. It's my first tattoo and it turns out they hurt me like hell. And I've had kidney stones.) I can't wait until the whole sleeve is complete.

And yes, I know he's not really known for his Iron Man, but it's my tattoo, dammit.

Coming soon: color, Big Barda and Arishem the Judge.

made of might

Last year there was a meme where you would render your own personal version of Batgirl and post it for the masses. The masses in turn would be instantly aware of all your shortcomings as if you had written them all out in a neatly typed letter and had it run as ad copy in the New York Times.

Anyway, they did a Supergirl meme this year and since I rarely miss a chance to humiliate myself I sketched up one during a lunchbreak and posted it. It is funny to compare it with last year's Batgirl, who is much grittier than I recall her. That look that I thought was sexy at the time now seems wholly unstable to me and for reasons that I am sure my therapist will want to discuss ad nauseum, I am pretty sure that guy at her feet has been "harmed."

This year's girl hero seems a tad more chipper, perhaps she is the Super manic to my Bat depressive.

Anyway, here they are:

Hourly Comic, 01-Feb-2007

Last year marked the first annual Hourly Comic Day, the rules of which are simple: "...beginning the hour it becomes February first, in your time zone, you will make a journal comic describing your past hour, for every hour that you are awake."

Last year I read the board where these were posted pretty religiously. The art ranged in quality pretty wildly, but it was always interesting what people chose to focus on during their day. I told myself then that I would do one this year if it happened again. When I told myself that, it probably wasn't very likely, mentally speaking, that I would. But a year later, things are very different, and when the time came I just did it, without overthinking it. I don't really draw anymore but I keep meaning to take it back up, so without any real style I just went with it. I had to draw it in some way that'd be interesting but still quick to do. I don't know for sure if it worked out, but I posted it. Now that I've started this blog up for whatever art-related things I do, I figured this is a good way to start it off, by reposting it here.
